Some of Canada’s top chefs are launching an important initiative across the country this week.
Victor Barry (PianoPiano, Cafe CanCan), Vikram Vig (Vij’s Restaurant, Rangoli, My Shanti) and Dan Geltner (Le Kitchen, Le Catering, Wonderburger) are at the helm of the Canadian Hospitality Worker Relief Fund, a program to support restaurant and hospitality workers financially impacted by COVID-19.
Applications for the Canadian Hospitality Worker Relief Fund open on Wednesday, which means hospitality workers will have to opportunity to apply for a $500 grant.
These one-time grants will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible individuals who work in the restaurant and hospitality industry, including delivery people, who have been adversely impacted by the pandemic financially through a decrease in wages or loss of employment.

This funding is aimed to help folks with the day-to-day basics: groceries, utility bills, rent or mortgage, and/or medical assistance.
People looking to apply for the grants can check out the list of criteria for eligibility here. Applications officially open on May 6 at 9 am ET.
The fund has already seen so much interest ahead of its launch, that more support is critical to ensuring workers get what they need.
