Several Americans spent Canada Day apologizing to Canadians for Trump
It’s no secret there’s been tension between Canada and the US recently.
Especially after Donald Trump imposed tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum and called out Canada’s dairy industry.
Not to mention Trump made headlines globally after his first Canadian visit for the G7 Summit he called Prime Minister Justin Trudeau “very dishonest and weak”.
But following his recent tirades, it appears the tables have turned and our neighbours south of the border are the ones saying sorry for once.
On Sunday, as Canada turned 151 years young, Americans turned to Twitter to not only wish our fine country a happy Canada Day but to also apologize for the current state of their country and their president’s behaviour.
From asking Canadians to adopt them to thanking Canada for supporting them in these difficult times, here are the funniest Canada Day messages from our American neighbours.
Dear Canada: So sorry about the mess downstairs, eh? Please forgive us: we’re going through a fascist rage punk phase. We’re working on it. In the meantime, thanks for being a beacon of hope, compassion and progress for humanity. Love, Sabrina ❤🇨🇦🍻#CanadaDay

Happy #CanadaDay
We love you Canada.
It’s your 151st birthday.
May you have many more.
And I hope that you can forgive us and be patient with us as we try to get our country back from the sociopath in the White House. pic.twitter.com/ZGiAI9Kb3u— Weholdthesetruths (@kdqd3) July 1, 2018

Happy #CanadaDay to those living in the loft apartment above our shit-fueled dumpster-fire of hatred in all its forms.
We’re sorry.

But this isn’t the first time an American has apologized for Trump’s behaviour.
In June, Robert De Niro publically apologized for Trump’s actions at the G7 Summit saying, “A note of apology for the idiotic behaviour of my president. It’s a disgrace and I apologize to Justin Trudeau and there other people at G7. It’s disgusting.”
