Vancouver restaurant to stop food service after 15 years; but it's not closing

After 15 years, Vancouver restaurant Calabash Bistro will be ceasing its food service. However, that does not mean the space will be closing.
“We are incredibly grateful for the love and support you’ve shown us over the past 15 years. You’ve always been our biggest motivation to keep our doors open,” shared the restaurant on Instagram.
This change will be implemented starting in August, meaning you won’t be able to order any of your Caribbean favourites from the restaurant starting then. But Calabash did add that its basement will remain open on weekends after 10 p.m., maintaining the same vibrant music vibes you know and love.
Additionally, Calabash will be hosting a Mexican food pop-up in the afternoons.
“Come and enjoy something new and delicious,” shared the restaurant.

Calabash’s menu consisted of a variety of traditional and contemporary Caribbean classics like jerk chicken, oxtail, and coconut dumplings. However, these Calabash favourites aren’t gone for good, as the restaurant shared it will continue to offer catering for events.
“We truly hope to have your continued support during this transition. Stay connected with us to hear more about our upcoming project,” concluded Calabash.

In June 2025, Dished spoke with one of the owners and chef Cullin David after a false news report stated that Calabash had closed. At the time, David had dispelled the rumour and said that while the space would remain open, they were “on the cusp of closing if things can’t change quickly down here.”
David spoke about considerations in leaving the area due to it feeling like a “war zone” and said he and multiple staff members had to deal with threats from drug dealers wanting to stash goods in the restaurant.
Folks wanting to stop by Calabash for one last meal can do so before Aug. 1.
