A cab driver in West Vancouver who was on his way pick up a passenger received an Excessive Speed impound and an immediate roadside prohibition while enroute.

The incident took place just after 3 pm on Sunday, when a West Vancouver Police officer conducting traffic enforcement observed a taxi travelling westbound at an excessive speed on Highway 1, near Cypress Bowl Road.

The vehicle’s speed was measured at approximately 148 km/hr in a 90 km/hr zone, said police.

The officer pulled the car over near Caulfield Drive, and after speaking with the driver – who was the lone occupant in the vehicle – the officer began to suspect that the cabbie might be impaired as well.

After a subsequent roadside investigation, the 58-year-old North Vancouver man was served with the 90-day prohibition, as well as a 30-day vehicle impound.

The driver was also ticketed for Excessive Speed and Failing to Wear a Seatbelt.

The vehicle – a Toyota Corolla – is also subject to a separate seven-day impound for the speeding charge.
