One man was taken into custody and is now facing a “number” of charges, following an incident that took place just after midnight in Burnaby on Thursday.

According to Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj, the incident began when officers responded to a report that a man was unresponsive in a vehicle at Francis Street and Beta Avenue.

Police attended along with Burnaby Fire Department and attempted to wake the man,” Kalanj told Daily Hive. “The man woke, did not follow instructions from police and drove away … into the intersection of Beta Avenue and Francis Street.”

At this point, the man “collided with a vehicle being driven by a Burnaby RCMP Frontline officer who was responding to assist officers on scene,” he added.

The man was then “quickly taken” into custody by police. “No one was injured in the incident and the vehicle being driven by the man was found to be stolen,” said Kalanj. The man is facing charges including possession of stolen property and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
