A giant world-class mountain bike park will soon open in Burnaby
A long-awaited mountain bike park is about to open in Burnaby after over two years since the project was announced, and locals are excited to ride.
The City of Burnaby announced that the new Mountain Air Bike Skills Course will be opening on Thursday, Sept. 3
The redevelopment of the public bike park in the Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area along the Barnet Highway was announced in 2024, with construction beginning last fall.
And while the City is looking forward to welcoming riders into the “world-class mountain biking destination” that’s one of the largest and only outdoor wood pump tracks that’s free to the public, it also has a request for riders.

“The new course opens Thursday, Sept. 3. Until then, please do not enter the park,” said the City of Burnaby on its website.
“Thank you for your patience while we apply the finishing touches!”
The Mountain Air Bike Skills Course first opened in 2008 on a 2.7-acre parcel at the north end of the mountain.
In a report to Burnaby City Council in March 2024, the Deputy General Manager Parks, Recreation and Culture stated that “redevelopment of the site is now required to support its ongoing use by the community.”
Initial cost estimates in 2024 pegged the upgrade of the bike park at $4.72 million.
“The investment is needed to keep the amenity safe and relevant to current and future riders and their needs,” the report said.

Design and construction of the Mountain Air Bike Skills Course was awarded to Pemberton-based Velosolutions Canada West.
According to the City of Burnaby, the redeveloped facility will include:
- A new BMX jump section with berms and jumps and a return through a gradual loop
- A flow trail section with two lines of progression suitable for different skill levels
- A flow trail section and a pump track area featuring berms, rollers, jumps, and drops
- Social and gathering spaces
“Mountain biking fans–young and old, beginner to advanced–can challenge themselves, developing their riding skills in a safe, controlled area,” added the City online.
Velosolutions Canada West and Pumptrack World Champion Niels Bensink posted a teaser of what’s to come on their Instagram page.
“Not long now till this place gets opened up to the public,” said Bensink online.

Fans also shared their excitement online about checking out the new Mountain Air Bike Skills Course starting this week.

Cypress Mountain Resort is also preparing to bring its downhill bike park back to life in the near future.

The westernmost ski resort on the North Shore mountains of Metro Vancouver is targeting Summer 2027 for the opening of a redesigned Cypress Bike Park on Black Mountain.
Construction on the first phase is expected to continue through November 2026, weather permitting.
Unlike conventional mountain biking trails, the new park will use a chairlift to carry riders and their bikes uphill, allowing them to ride purpose-built downhill routes back to the base of the mountain.
