Dr. Bonnie Henry toured Gastown on Friday in a special preview of the neighbourhoods Murals of Gratitude exhibition featuring paintings of the heroes who have led Canada through the coronavirus pandemic.

The provincial health officer posed for photos beside a likeness of herself that’s strung up along a fence beside a painting of Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam.

The free mural exhibition at Carrall and Water streets officially opens to the public on July 6. It was created by the Gastown BIA in collaboration with community partners.

While in Gastown, Henry also picked up a pair of John Fluevog shoes that were designed in her honour. BC’s top doctor frequently wore shoes by the designer to her daily press briefings, and the shoe-maker designed one after her with proceeds going towards Foodbanks BC.

When the limited edition “Dr. Henry” shoe launched in April, it quickly sold out. Shoe sales raised $100,000 for the food banks.
