'Required repairs' force BC Ferries to cancel several sailings on busy route

One of BC Ferries busiest routes is down a vessel to start the week, with several sailings being cancelled.
According to BC Ferries, two sailings between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale on the Sunshine Coast have been cancelled on Monday, June 15. They include:
- 12:15 p.m. departing Langdale
- 1:20 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
This is due to “required hull repairs” on the Queen of Coquitlam, and more sailings are at risk of not proceeding.

The 2:35 p.m. and 4:50 p.m. sailings from Langdale and the 3:40 p.m. and 6:05 p.m. departures from Horseshoe Bay were also identified as being at risk of cancellation until repairs are complete.
“While every effort is being made to complete the repairs as quickly as possible, the Queen of Surrey will continue to provide service as scheduled,” said BC Ferries in a service notice posted on Sunday, June 14.
“We know you have important places to be and apologize for the inconvenience these cancellations may cause. Your patience is appreciated while the required repairs are completed.”

Those who have been impacted by the cancelled sailings will be contacted by the Customer Service Centre to let them know if another sailing, or if their booking must be cancelled and refunded.
Passengers aboard sailings between Horsehoe Bay and Langdale also experienced several lengthy delays over the weekend.
The 12:15 p.m. sailing departed Langdale 77 minutes late due to a “minor maintenance issue on another vessel that requires approval from Marine Communications & Traffic Services to resume service.”
The 1:15 pm departing Langdale was also operating 2 hours and 17 minutes behind schedule on Sunday afternoon.

The busy summer travel season is just around the corner, and the cost of sailing with BC Ferries is about to increase for passengers.
According to the company, it will be adding a new temporary fuel surcharge of five per cent starting Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
This is in response to what BC Ferries describes as “sustained increases in global fuel prices” and the energy market volatility stemming from geopolitical conflict overseas.
