It hasn’t been easy for Canadians as they faced tough economic times this year, but they still had it in their hearts to give back to those in need, according to GoFundMe Canada’s Most Generous Communities report for 2025.
The new report by the online crowdfunding platform has revealed the most giving cities in the country, as calculated by charitable donations per capita.
B.C. locations took four of the top five spots on the list, with Vancouver landing at number three.

“Every donation is powered by a deeply human story. We see it in a neighbourhood rallying to save a beloved children’s bookstore, or a community uniting to keep a local farm open and its animals cared for,” said Tim Cadogan, CEO of GoFundMe, in a release.
“This year’s top communities showcase the very best of us; they prove that help is inherently human, with friends uniting, strangers stepping in, and entire cities answering the call. What we’re seeing, year after year, is that when needs grow, Canadians respond swiftly and emphatically.”

Residents of Victoria gave the most GoFundMe donations per capita in 2025, North Vancouver placed second, and New Westminster placed fifth. The only non-B.C. city to crack the top five was Saint John’s, Nfld., which placed fourth.
Kamloops landed in the sixth spot, Port Coquitlam placed ninth, Kelowna was 10th, and Nanaimo was 12th on the generous list.

Fundraising campaigns were launched in Vancouver and B.C. for a variety of causes this year, ranging from supporting the family of a 10-year-old North Vancouver boat crash victim to helping an international student after a rare cancer diagnosis.
Several GoFundMes were also launched in the aftermath of the Lapu Lapu Day tragedy.
“GoFundMe recorded over 51,100 donors in Vancouver for 2025,” said the crowdfunding platform in a statement. “With a population of more than 662,000, that results in a per capita donor rate of 7.73 per cent.”
“Amid a year of economic strain, major climate disasters, and international unrest, Vancouver has stepped up in remarkable ways.”
