A 16-year-old Vancouver boy whose dad, stepmom, and sister were killed in the Lapu Lapu Day attack is thanking the community for the support he has received during this devastating time.

A video update on a verified GoFundMe shows Andy Le sharing kind words for members of the public.

“Hello, everyone. My name is Andy Le. I would like to thank everyone who has donated to my GoFundMe campaign. And from the bottom of my heart, thank you all so much. I truly appreciate each and every one of you,” said the teen.

He went on to acknowledge the many other victims of the Vancouver attack and announced he will donate $266,000 from his GoFundMe to the others who have been affected.

The fundraising page for Andy has raised over $542,646 and is now closed for further donations.

It was set up to support him for his future and college education.

On Saturday, April 26, Andy decided to stay back from the festival to finish some homework.

According to the fundraising page, his father, Richard Le (47), stepmom, Linh Hoang (30), and sister, Katie Le (5), were “killed either instantly or succumbed to their injuries at the hospital” when a driver rammed an SUV into a crowd of attendees.

The fundraiser, set up by family member Toan Le, highlights that Richard was a dedicated father, badminton and tennis coach, and real estate professional. He was a passionate mentor to young people, valuing sportsmanship and team spirit.

“He served his community and clients with pride and always went out of his way to help others,” stated the page.

Linh was Andy’s stepmother and was “known for her kindness and gentle spirit,” Toan wrote on the GoFundMe page.

As for Katie, she was getting ready to graduate from kindergarten. Toan described her as “vibrant, joyful, and full of life.”

In his video, Andy provided a brief update about the care he is receiving from family.

“I want to keep living with my grandparents [who have] helped raise me, and truly love me.”
