Horgan's coronavirus response makes him most popular premier in Canada: poll

Despite a recent rise in coronavirus cases in the province, BC Premier John Horgan has received top marks when it comes to his handling of the pandemic.

According to a new Angus Reid survey, public approval for Horgan is the highest of any premier in the country at 69%.

The survey found that Horgan’s outreach attempts to younger demographics in the province may have played a part in his approval rating – even though the same demographic is largely responsible for the increase in cases.

“As younger residents drive much of the province’s rising trend in COVID-19 case numbers and tune out public health officials, Horgan recently reached out to BC-born celebrities Ryan Reynolds and Seth Rogen in an effort to change the message,” the survey said.

Across the board, the survey found that response to the coronavirus pandemic “continues to be a key metric by which Canadians rate their political leaders in 2020.”
