Some of B.C.’s popular winter destinations recently got a preview of the season to come, and outdoor enthusiasts are excited by the snow they see.
From Metro Vancouver to Vancouver Island, Sea to Sky, and the Thompson-Okanagan, ski mountains and resorts recently posted about the fresh powder on social media to get visitors amped for winter.
One of the first to show off the new snow was Mt. Washington Alpine Resort, located about 30 minutes north of the Comox Valley.
“Have you got eyes on our webcams?” asked Mt. Washington.
“That long-awaited precipitation us Islanders have been longing for has finally arrived, and it has resulted in a nice blanket of white at the mountain.”

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) meteorologist Jennifer Hay told Daily Hive that the freezing level dropped to about 1,200 metres above sea level over the weekend, bringing snow to several areas.
“Freezing level is different across the province, and is generally lower in the north. Between east and west, because we’re influenced by the Pacific Ocean, our freezing levels are higher.”
Hay added that it doesn’t look likely for snow in Vancouver anytime soon.
Sun Peaks Resort, which boasts Canada’s second-largest ski area, posted a video showcasing a taste of what’s in store for the upcoming season.
Fans described the footage as “paradise” and exclaimed they were very excited to see the mountain covered in white.

Grouse Mountain on the North Shore took the opportunity to give followers a glimpse of its resident grizzly bear experiencing the winter preview.
“Coola is enjoying the first snowfall of the season,” wrote Grouse Mountain in its post.
Coola is a rescued grizzly bear who arrived at the mountain in 2001. Her fellow resident bear, Grinder, passed away this summer.
“Thinking of you, Coola,” read a comment on Instagram. “First snow without Grinder, I hope you have a good hibernation.”

“The alpine is looking dreamy this morning, and we are already counting down to the 2026–27 winter season.”

Closer to home, the Vancouver Halloween forecast is looking like a treat after a rainy week.
According to ECCC, the weather forecast for Saturday, Oct. 31 is looking clear of precipitation, though there may be clouds in the sky.
However, you’ll want to layer up underneath the costumes, because the overnight temperatures are dipping by the end of the week.
