The CPKC Holiday Train rolls back into B.C. this December, bringing lights, holiday cheer, and one of Canada’s favourite music acts to a bunch of communities across the province.

The 28th edition of the beloved holiday tradition will travel across Canada and the U.S. this season to raise money, food, and awareness for local food banks.

This year’s Canadian tour will visit six provinces and 12 states, with free concerts at every stop. Attendees at each CPKC Holiday Train stop in B.C. will also enjoy a free and festive concert by six-time Juno winners, Sam Roberts Band.

“We are so proud to be part of the CPKC Holiday Train once again,” said Sam Roberts Band online. “It’s been eight years since we last rode the rails and rocked the mountains with you all, and we are very excited to do it all over.

“From Calgary to Banff to Agassiz and every town in between. Thirty-three shows in 10 days across Alberta and British Columbia to raise money for food banks that are well in need of lots of support. See you in the peaks and valleys this December!”

Sam Roberts released his debut solo studio release in 2002, with the album The Inhuman Conditions becoming the best-selling independent EP in Canadian history.

His first full-length album We Were Born in a Flame won three Juno Awards. His following three albums also won Junos, each for Rock Album of the Year.

Roberts’ catalogue of hits includes “Brother Down,” “Don’t Walk Away Eileen,” and  “Where Have All the Good People Gone?”

Also on the bill at all B.C. stops is two-time Canadian Country Music Association winner, Owen Riegling.

“Our railroaders take great pride in bringing the Holiday Train through hundreds of communities across our network to support people facing food insecurity,” said CPKC President and CEO Keith Creel in a release.

“Through the generosity of the thousands of families and fans who come out to see the Holiday Train and support local food banks, whether for the first time or as part of a long-running holiday tradition, we can spread the joy of the season and support the giving spirit of the holidays.”

The magical train will be chugging through 23 communities in B.C. this month, including Maple Ridge, Port Moody, Pitt Meadows, and Port Coquitlam.
