A B.C. hotel was on the receiving end of a significant honour earlier this week.
The Fairmont Empress, located in Victoria, B.C., was named the best historical hotel in the Americas by Historic Hotels Worldwide.
“This award is presented to a historic hotel in the Americas that best celebrates its history in the guest experience and provides exceptional customer hospitality and service,” Historic Hotels Worldwide said in a release.
The Fairmont Empress opened its doors in 1908, and a part of the reason why it won the award was its dedication to preserving its history.
“Fairmont Empress is being honoured for preserving and maintaining its historic integrity, architecture and ambiance,” Fairmont said in a release.
“Designed by renowned architect Francis Rattenbury, the hotel quickly became a social and cultural landmark—hosting royalty, celebrities, and dignitaries from around the world,” it added.
“The winners are the finest historic hotels and hoteliers from around the world. The historic hotels nominated include small historic inns, boutique hotels, lifestyle hotels, and resorts. They represent small towns to large cities to UNESCO World Heritage Sites,” said Lawrence Horwitz, executive vice president of Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide.
Only 10 hotels in total were recognized.
The Empress is no stranger to winning awards and has won many over the past several years.
Last year, the Fairmont Empress topped a list of Canada’s best hotels. Earlier this year, it was named one of the best hotels in Canada again.
