Three B.C. destinations crowned best places to visit in Canada
Lonely Planet, which covers the world’s “most extraordinary places and experiences,” recently revealed the 15 best places to visit in Canada.
Three B.C. destinations made the list, and it’s hard to argue with the choices.
“Canada captivates visitors with its wildlife, wilderness, and vibrant cultural offerings,” said Lonely Planet in its write-up. “The scale of this North American nation can make planning your itinerary somewhat daunting, but we’re here to help.”

Coming in at #5 was Vancouver, chosen for being “best for urban life with access to nature.”
The region’s skiable mountains, stunning beaches, and Stanley Park’s natural beauty were highlighted, as was the city’s “legally allowed” outdoor summer drinking.
Vancouver’s reputation as Hollywood North was also a key selling point to Lonely Planet.
Just two spots later at #7 was Whistler, a popular spot for celebrities like Chelsea Handler and Michael Bublé.

“Featuring over 200 marked runs winding down two towering mountains – Whistler and Blackcomb – this alpine village is a skier’s paradise,” gushed Lonely Planet.
The resort municipality’s year-round features were also highlighted, including outdoor activities such as mountain biking and paddleboarding, as well as a bustling arts and culture scene.
Whistler is also home to an annual summer concert series with stars like Juno winners Bahamas, 54-40, Sam Roberts Band, and Chantal Kreviazuk.
Those looking for more nature of the surf variety, as well as boutique food spots, can hop over to the tenth-best place to visit in Canada: Vancouver Island.

Victoria’s shopping, coffee bars, and history were shouted out by Lonely Planet, as was the Pacific Rim National Park’s West Coast Trail and Tofino’s waves.
Vancouver Island is routinely chosen as one of the top destinations for international travellers. Earlier this year, CNN named it one of the best places to visit in 2025, the only Canadian location on the list and one of only four North American places that it describes as “particularly worth visiting.”
San Josef Bay, hidden away on the northern tip of Vancouver Island, was also recently voted one of the best beaches in North America for 2025.
