As one restaurant opens, another closes. I guess that’s just the way it goes.
Bao Down has officially closed their OG location in Gastown. The eatery, located at 12 Powell Street, closed up shop two weeks ago.
This isn’t a run-of-the-mill closure story, as the popular family of Pan Asian restaurants operates their Snack Bar location just steps away from the where the original restaurant was and they’ve gotten creative to keep the first spot’s spirit intact.

Faron Bainbridge, manager of Bao Down Snack Bar told Daily Hive they have merged the two restaurants’ menus and will serve them at the vibrant Snack Bar space at 221 Carrall Street.
While Bainbridge doesn’t know for sure, he says there are talks of serving the Bao’s greatest hits during the day – think kimchi fries, baos – and Bao Down Snack Bar’s signature share plates during the evening after 5 pm.
So really, now you can get all the Bao Down eats your love in one place, and you can also hit up the eatery’s other two locations in Olympic Village and on Commercial Drive.
