Alberta eatery named one of the best casual dining restaurants in the world
Tripadvisor just named the Balkan Mediterranean Restaurant in Banff one of the world’s best dining spots in two categories at its Travellersā Choice Awards.
“We’ve once again been named a Tripadvisor Travellersā Choice Best of the Best for 2026, placing us among the top one per cent of restaurants in the world,” the restaurant shared on its Instagram.
“A huge thank you to everyone who has joined us for a table full of mezze, souvlaki, saganaki, and baklava, shared a review, or brought someone new through our doors.”

A staple on Banff Avenue since 1984, the restaurant is well-known for its Greek and Mediterranean dishes and an entertaining dining experience complete with belly dancers and plate smashing.
It ranked fourth on Tripadvisor’s list of the world’s best vegan and vegetarian restaurants and 14th on its list of the world’s best casual restaurants.
“Your support has helped make this little corner of the Mediterranean in Banff something pretty special,” the restaurant added.
It was the only Canadian restaurant to make either global ranking.

Tripadvisor praised the restaurant’s Greek touches, friendly staff, and welcoming atmosphere.
“The grilled meats and fresh salads stand out, and youāll want to leave room for their unique desserts,” Tripadvisor wrote.
The travel site also highlighted the restaurant’s service, noting its engaging team and recommending that diners ask for suggestions.
