In coming to Vancouver, Thomas Müller instantly becomes the most famous athlete ever to play for one of our pro sports teams.

While Vancouver Canucks players like Quinn Hughes or Elias Pettersson may get recognized more in the streets of Vancouver, the new Vancouver Whitecaps star has global appeal.

For proof, check out Müller’s following on social media.

With 14.8 million followers on Instagram, Müller has a bigger following than every other current Canucks player combined. He even dwarfs the following of the official @Canucks account, which has but a mere 764K followers.

In second place, I bet you didn’t expect to see a Vancouver Bandits player.

Tristan Jass is no average basketball player though. A famed YouTuber with 5.6 million subscribers, Jass signed with the Bandits in April. He has another 2.4 million followers on Instagram.

Canucks players fill most of the rest of the list, led by newcomer Evander Kane (409K).

Sarah Nurse from PWHL Vancouver ranks seventh on our list, at 141K. The second-most followed Whitecaps player is Sam Adekugbe, at 82.8K. The most followed BC Lions player is actually backup QB Chase Brice (32.8K), despite having a private account.

There’s just one Vancouver Canadians player on our list, in Toronto Blue Jays first-round pick Arjun Nimmala.
