BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) dispatched ambulances to the Whistler area on Monday due to an avalanche in the mountains.
Not many details are available yet about where the avalanche started or how many people could have been hurt, but search and Rescue personnel are responding.
“We can confirm that we are aware of an avalanche in the Whistler area and have dispatched ambulance resources to care for any patients extracted from the scene,” paramedic public information officer Brian Twaites told Daily Hive.
Twaites said the service will provide updates when it’s able to.
Update:
In a statement, BCEHS told Daily Hive that it received a call at 1:34 pm on December 23 regarding an avalanche in the Whistler area.
“Three ambulances with primary care paramedics and one advanced care paramedic responder unit responded to a staging area at the Whistler Helipad on Heliport Road,” BCEHS said.
According to BCEHS, three patients were transported to the hospital and are in stable condition. Two additional patients were attended to but did not require hospital transport.
We also heard from Whistler Blackcomb, who informed us that everyone impacted was accounted for.
“Whistler Heli-Skiing is grateful to its partners and Whistler Backcomb Ski Patrol for their quick action.”
