With the cooler temperatures and rainy weather in Vancouver these days, it’s a given that winter is on its way to BC. In fact, snow has already fallen at higher elevations in some areas of the province recently.
With the winter weather comes the excitement of another ski season and with an abundance of resorts right across the province, snow seekers are blessed with numerous options to choose from.
However, this blessing can sometimes feel like a curse because, after all, with so many choices, how exactly do you pick just one?
While many factors go into this decision, vacation rental search engine HomeToGo has at least provided one way to determine your next destination.
The company recently revealed the results of its annual Ski Price Index, which looks at the affordability of resorts right across North America, based on a number of factors.

Four factors were researched in ranking the destinations:
- Cost of equipment rental (skis, boots, and poles for one day)
- Price of day ticket
- Cost of buying lunch at the resort (Regular cheeseburger and fries)
- One night’s accommodation (Based on HomeToGo’s own search data)
With all this taken into account, Home2Go said the top 10 most affordable ski resorts in North America are:
- Marmot Basin, Alberta
- Bolton Valley, VT
- Lake Louise, Alberta
- Silver Star Mountain Resort (Vernon, BC)
- Mont-Tremblant, Quebec
- Mission Ridge Ski Area, WA
- Schweitzer Mountain, ID
- Revelstoke Mountain Resort, (Revelstoke, BC)
- Fernie Alpine Resort, (Fernie, BC)
- Sun Peaks Resort (Kamloops, BC)
Other BC resorts in the ranking included Big White (12) Kicking Horse Mountain Resort (16), Panorama Mountain Resort (17), and Whistler Blackcomb (36).
“We’re excited to present our Ski Price Index for the third consecutive year,” said HometoGo’s Michael Lee in a release. “From Vermont to British Columbia, the ranking shows that more affordable options are available across the continent.”
The full ranking of all 50 resorts is available on HomeToGo’s website.
