Vancouver hot spot for new restaurants to house an authentic Mexican eatery

If you’ve walked down Alberni between Bute and Thurlow Street, you may have noticed a bunch of new restaurants have opened in the area.
For starters, Din Tai Fung opened its first-ever Canadian outpost there, bringing its signature xiao long bao to Vancouver. Additionally, the popular Korean bakery Paris Baguette opened its first Vancouver outpost there too, bringing with it beautifully decorated cakes, freshly baked bread, pastries, gourmet sandwiches, and more.
But the last time we reported on the area, there was a third spot that piqued our interest: Comal.
At the time, not much was known about the new restaurant. Signs indicated it was being led by Chef Rodrigo De Quevedo and that āsomething new is cooking with spice and elegance.ā Additionally, it said it will represent āa new era of Mexican dining.ā
However, signs have since been updated, and it looks like the concept has changed — at least by name.
Instead of Comal, the signs have since been updated to a new restaurant called Acuyo.

The original poster, indicating “something new is cooking with spice and elegance,” is still up, but now we have an opening date for fall 2025.
Additionally, a QR code now directs users to a LinkTree to a currently empty Instagram page and a website listing the name of the restaurant and that it’s “Coming Soon.” Other than that, not much is known about the new restaurant.
