
An off-duty member of the Abbotsford police sustained “life-threatening injuries” after an altercation with a man police say was causing a disturbance.
According to a release from Nelson Police Department, they responded to a call of a disturbance in the 600 block of Baker Street of Nelson, BC on Thursday.
“Nelson Police and Emergency Services arrived in the area and located a seriously injured male who was transported to hospital by BC Ambulance Service,” the release states.

Law enforcement say the investigation is still in its early stages, however, it appears that “one male was causing a disturbance in the roadway when the victim approached him and a physical altercation ensued.”
The victim, a 55-year-old man from Abbotsford, who the city’s police department confirmed as a member on Sunday, reportedly sustained life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital in critical condition.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, according to police.
The investigation is ongoing and police ask anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 250-354-3919.
