Teed Off: Abbotsford driver loses vehicle after 'excessive' speeding to golf course

Jun 22 2026, 9:03 pm

A Fraser Valley driver could’ve used a golf cart to get home after his vehicle was impounded for speeding before he even made it to the course.

Over the weekend, the Abbotsford Police Department shared a post on social media about an incident involving an avid golfer.

“A 55-year-old man ended up having to find his own ride to the golf course after his vehicle was impounded for excessive speeding near King Road and Lefeuvre Road,” said Abbotsford Police.

Police officers witnessed the driver reaching speeds of 130 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

“When the driver was pulled over, he was apologetic but told the officer he was late for his ‘tee time,'” added police, who shared that the driver ended up phoning for a ride-share vehicle to transport him and his golf clubs.

“Road safety remains a top priority for the Abbotsford Police Department. So far in 2026, AbbyPD has removed 218 excessive speeders.”

According to ICBC, if you’re caught speeding, every type of speeding infraction can cost you three penalty points.

Excessive speeding could lead to a fine between $368 and $483. If you’re caught speeding in a school zone, you face a fine between $196 and $253, and it also applies to drivers speeding while driving in a playground zone.

The Government of B.C. states that police are also able to impound vehicles found to be speeding excessively, with the registered vehicle owner responsible for all towing and storage costs.

Impound durations include:

  • Seven days for a first offence
  • 30 days for a second offence within two years
  • 60 days for any later offence within two years

ICBC has a full list of potential driving infractions posted on its website. The BC Ministry of Transportation also has a comprehensive and detailed list of every possible driving infraction that you could face while on the roads.
