A Vancouver cricket match was allegedly disrupted in a violent way, according to some details being shared by the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).

The VPD said it’s investigating an alleged assault that occurred at 6 p.m. in Kitsilano this past Saturday at Connaught Park.

A 45-year-old man reportedly bear-sprayed a group of cricketers and broke one of the players’ arms in a fight.

Vancouver Police say that a cricket match was underway when the suspect apparently walked across the pitch and repeatedly interrupted the cricket match. Police added that players and spectators had asked the man to leave, which resulted in the man getting aggressive, reportedly shouting and swearing.

“The suspect then allegedly punched a 37-year-old player and bear-sprayed five others before fleeing the park. As the players followed him, the suspect allegedly turned around several times and continued to bear-spray them,” VPD said.

After that, the suspect reportedly punched the 37-year-old cricket player again and tackled him to the ground, which broke the victim’s arm.

“The suspect was taken into custody after multiple witnesses called police. He was subsequently released from jail on a promise to appear in court at a later date,” police said.

The victim was treated in the hospital and later released, and the incident remains under investigation.
