7 ridiculous Christmas card ideas you and your friends need to recreate

Nov 13 2019, 7:08 pm

If you think taking Christmas photos with Santa is strictly for kids, think again. Metro Vancouver has a new place where you can make the most of the holiday season by planning a fun and totally unique photoshoot with your friends or family.

Confetti Box sets up life-size photo-op displays with interactive installations, colourful backdrops, and other infinitely Instagramable details.

It’s a fun way to briefly escape to a fantasy world of disco balls, shimmery sequins, oversized donuts, or, if you’re feeling festive, the North Pole — but for adults and with photo evidence.

Starting this November, they’re gearing up for the Christmas season by offering holiday-themed installations, complete with a real live Santa! This means it’s the perfect time to channel your inner child, gather your friends, and create some hilarious and creative holiday cards.

Grab the gang and get ready to make your best Christmas cards ever. Here are a few fun ideas to get you started.

Snowball fight with Santa

Get your gloves on and hop in the ball pit for a little snowball fight with Santa! Get as creative as you want with this interactive backdrop, making sure to invite Santa in on the fun. Pit you and your friends against Santa in the snowball fight of the ages, making sure to toss some of the “snowballs” in the air while you’re at it so you can capture the chaos on camera.

Trip to the North Pole

Confetti-adorned life-size candy canes, white twinkling Christmas trees, and Santa himself, oh my — you must be in the North Pole! Let your imagination run wild for this card, where you and your friends have made the long journey up north to meet the big man in red himself. Take this opportunity to sit on Santa’s lap and tell him about that thing you want — after all, no one is too old for the magic of Christmas — before he packs up his sleigh for the big day.

Magical snow globe

Ever wondered what it was actually like inside that tiny snow globe? Take a trip to the magical land inside with Confetti Box’s seasonal snow globe installation. Let the silvery “snow” envelop you and your friends as you look on in wonderment at the magical land you’ve slipped into with Santa by your side.

Santa’s toy workshop

With tiny toy elves, gift-wrapped boxes (including a giant one you can pop out of) and perfectly picturesque Christmas trees, creating Santa’s toy workshop at the Confetti Box studio is a fun and playful card option. In addition to using the props provided, consider convincing your friends to dress up with you as Santa’s elves for this one — yes, there’ll be photo evidence, but it’ll also be way fun.

Leaving out donuts for Santa

Donut display/Confetti Box

A fan favourite at Confetti Box are their oversized donuts, complete with colourful icing and sprinkles. Perfect for those with a sweet tooth, why not incorporate them into your Christmas scene? We’re thinking confetti-snow, white trees, a sweet little snack cart prop, and plenty of tasty treats for Santa to indulge in as he leaves gifts under the tree. A fun way to stage this one would be to have Santa taking a big bite out of a donut while you and your friends, dressed in pyjamas, are hiding behind a tree, trying not to get caught spying.

Walk through an enchanted forest

Joining the special seasonal props like the life-size candy canes and jumbo gift boxes is a magical enchanted forest display. With twinkling string lights, light-up trees, and woodland creature props, you’re well on your way to staging the most enchanting Christmas card your friends and family have ever seen.

Wintery candyland

Take full advantage of the many food-themed props at Confetti Box — which includes donuts, an upside-down ice cream cone, and candy-dotted backdrops — and turn them into a winter wonderland candyland! Use confetti snow, light-up Christmas trees, and sparkly candy canes to add to the Christmas meets candyland effect. This one is a bit unconventional, but perfect for those whose favourite part about the holidays is all the sweet treats.

You don’t have to confine yourselves to just one backdrop, either. Guests are encouraged to rearrange, touch, and play with all the props in the space. You can bring your own photographer (professional or amateur) along with you, or the Confetti Box staff can hop behind the camera to snap your pics. Confetti Box also offers gift cards, perfect for the shutterbug or aspiring influencer on your list.
