First-degree murder charge laid in shooting death of Vancouver senior

Vancouver Police have made an arrest in connection to the murder of a 69-year-old man over the weekend.

According to VPD, the incident occurred on January 26. Just before midnight, police received several calls about a shooting near Fraser Street and 51 Avenue.

Officers arrived and found 69-year-old Zenen Cepeda Silva suffering from gunshot wounds. The shooter had already fled the scene.

Silva was transported to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Alvaro Julio Roche-Garcia, 58, has been arrested for Silva’s murder. First-degree murder charges have been approved by Crown counsel against Roche-Garcia, who is in custody. This is Vancouver’s second homicide of 2019.
