Police are investigating after they say a carjacking resulted in a 19-year-old being stabbed.

On July 15, just after midnight, the Burnaby RCMP received reports of a stabbing and carjacking that took place in the 9000 blocks of Cardston Court, according to a statement.

When officers arrived at the scene they found a 19-year-old suffering from stab wounds.

Fortunately, the injuries were non-life-threatening. The victim’s friend was also on the scene and was uninjured.

At this point in time, police believe that the altercation was between the two young men and a group of other men. The Burnaby RCMP say that the exchange led to the teen being stabbed and the vehicle they were travelling in being stolen — although the car has since been recovered by police.

It’s also unclear as to what the motive was behind the incident, although police believe that it was targeted.

RCMP are looking to speak to anyone who may have seen a dark coloured SUV or the victim’s vehicle, a white 2004 Mazda 3.

Anyone with information or dashcam video is asked to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
