A Look Inside: West Vancouver mansion designed by Arthur Erickson listed for $16.8 million (PHOTOS)
Another property by late Vancouver architect Arthur Erickson has been listed on the market, and this one is one of his largest designs for a single-family residence.
Hugo and Brigitte Eppich House, located at 1056 Groveland Road in West Vancouver’s British Properties, was built in 1988 for Helmut and Hugo Eppich — the owners of Ebco Industries, a diversified manufacturing firm based in Richmond that specializes in metal fabrication.

“The intent was to construct the primarily steel and glass building using the materials, expertise, and labour available in the plant,” reads the architect’s namesake legacy foundation’s description of the project.
“Glass and aluminum wall panels are broken by stainless steel columns, which support the painted white steel structural beams. Each level terminates in a half vault greenhouse space of glass block for privacy from neighbouring residences.”

The property, currently listed for $16.8 million, has about 6,000-sq-ft of living space on its massive 51,500-sq-ft lot. There are four bedrooms, five bathrooms, a recreation room, solarium, and a flex room, with the spaces for the children and parents located on different levels to provide separation.
“The parent’s level overlooks the enclosed swimming pool structure, which is oriented perpendicular to the main building mass. The other two levels are perched in terraces cut parallel into the site and retained by stone planter walls,” continues the description.
There is also an enclosed swimming pool, as well as a reflecting pool fed by natural waters from a diversion of a creek bordering the south end of the site.
According to the foundation, the hard materials of the structure are “contrasted” by the softer interior finishes designed by Francisco Kripacz.
