Here's where you can get a flu shot in Toronto (MAP)

As the second wave of the pandemic takes hold across the country, a new website allows you to find a flu vaccine near your home.

Called myflushot.ca, the site provides a map of doctor’s offices, pharmacies, and vaccine clinics where flu shots are available. Users simply type in their location, age, and type of facility. It also allows you to book an appointment.

The tool is especially helpful as Ontario reports shortages of flu shots amid the ongoing pandemic.

The website was created by Empower Health, a Toronto-based company that develops health technology platforms, and Immunize Canada, a website that provides information on immunization to Canadians.

myflushot.ca also allows users to find different types of flu shots, including those with a higher dose, or a facility that speaks a specific language. You can choose to be notified when a vaccine becomes available at a location near you.

With coronavirus, public officials are urging everyone to get a flu shot this year.

“Getting your annual flu vaccine is the best way to prevent getting sick from the flu,” said Dr. Eileen de Villa, Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health.

“This year it’s more important than ever to get your flu vaccine early to help protect yourself, and others from severe illness, and reduce the burden on our healthcare system during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

According to Toronto Public Health, typical flu symptoms include a high fever, chills, sore throat, cough, and muscle aches. Other common symptoms include headache, loss of appetite, and feeling tired.

Recovering from the flu usually takes a week to 10 days, they say, but for some people it can worsen pre-existing health conditions, including asthma or heart disease, or develop into more serious health problems, such as pneumonia. In rare circumstances it can be fatal.
