Two GTA GoodLife Fitness employees test positive for coronavirus

Two employees at the same GoodLife Fitness location in Mississauga have tested positive for COVID-19 in the span of a few days.

The two cases were found at the Mississauga Heartland Town Centre Club days apart, on August 26 and August 29.

On Friday, employers were notified of the first case and made the employee quarantine at home and notified those who were in the club the same day.

The employee last worked on Wednesday, August 26.

“The Associate informed GoodLife after receiving the positive test and we immediately informed Members who were in the Club during the Associate’s shifts. We also immediately informed all Associates who work at our Mississauga Heartland Town Centre Club,” said Tracy Matthews, Vice President of Operations of GoodLife Fitness.

Days later, employers were notified of a second associate at the club who had received a positive test result for COVID-19.

“The Associate has not been in the Club since Saturday, August 29, and is currently in quarantine at home. Earlier today, we notified Associates and Members who may have been in contact with this individual,” said Matthews.

“In both cases, the affected Associates took all appropriate health and safety precautions under The GoodLife Standard, including wearing a mask for the entire duration of each of their shifts, and neither Associate came into prolonged close contact with anyone else in the Club.”

Last month, GoodLife submitted a proposal to the Ontario government, requesting to increase capacity in their larger Ontario clubs, which already stood at a 50-person indoor gathering limit.

Despite the request, a GoodLife Fitness in Brampton had closed its doors days after the request was made, after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

As for cleaning procedures, the Mississauga Heartland Club closes nightly from 2 am to 4 am for “a deep clean and sanitization using electrostatic disinfectant sprayers”, and also partakes in a 30-minute Club Reset that takes place after every hour throughout the day along with cleaning routines.

GoodLife Fitness remains in contact with Peel Public Health, continuing to follow their guidance.
