GoodLife Fitness has applied for an exemption to Ontario’s 50-person gathering rule so that more people can work out at its largest clubs.

Jason Sheridan, the gym chain’s senior vice president of operations, said they hope the government will approve their plan to have a larger number of people at the gym while still physically distancing.

“We can confirm that GoodLife has submitted a proposal to the Ontario Provincial Government requesting an increased capacity in our larger Ontario clubs beyond the current 50-person indoor gathering limit,” he said.

“Since the proposal is still under consideration, we are not able to provide additional details at this time.”

GoodLife is the largest gym chain in Canada with more than 300 locations, many of them in the Greater Toronto Area.

The company reopened many of its Toronto gyms on Friday, July 31 as the city moved into Phase 3 of its pandemic reopening plan.
