
A man and a woman are dead after a car drove into Lake Ontario on Tuesday evening, according to Halton Regional Police.
Police said just after 8 pm, officers received reports that a vehicle had driven into Lake Ontario from LaSalle Park in the City of Burlington.

Initial information given to police said there were several occupants trapped inside the vehicle, which is described as a navy blue sedan.
As a result, police said there was a heavy presence of police, fire, and EMS on the scene, and requested the public avoid the area.
Unfortunately, police said efforts by witnesses, police, the Burlington Fire department, and Halton Paramedics was unsuccessful in recovering the occupants trapped inside the fully submerged vehicle.
One vehicle confirmed in the water. At this point it is considered a recovery mission.

Police said the vehicle was around 40-feet from the shoreline, and it was completely submerged underwater.
Halton Regional Police has requested assistance of Peel Regional Police’s dive team.

An underwater search and rescue team from Peel Regional Police and Toronto Police Service were brought in to assist with recovery efforts and to help remove the vehicle during the night.
The vehicle was extracted from the lake by divers and a heavy tow service. Two occupants were located deceased in the vehicle, a 55-year-old male and a 51-year-old female.
While no names have been released, police did confirm both occupants in the vehicle were from Burlington.
