An Ontario woman working as a fortune teller has been charged after allegedly defrauding her client of $200,000.

According to Halton Police, 23-year-old Cynthia Burt, who went by the alias Jasmine Burt or ‘Psychic Jasmine,’ advertised her services online and sometimes operated out of a storefront on Lakeshore Road in Oakville.

Burt allegedly defrauded her victim of approximately $200,000 by preying upon their vulnerable situation.

Police say this was reported to authorities in December 2017 and shortly after the investigation started Burt left Oakville and eventually relocated to Edmonton, Alberta.

Edmonton police also say they had reports of Burt defrauding victims in their area and she was ultimately arrested and charged in Alberta as well.

On June 14, Halton Regional Police detectives went to Edmonton to take the suspect into custody.
