Here are the TTC changes coming into effect today

As Toronto prepares for the next phase of reopening, there are a few changes coming to the TTC today that residents will need to know.

Starting Thursday, July 2, customers and TTC staff must wear cloth masks or face coverings when travelling and transit riders will be able to board buses through both the front and rear doors.

Also, cash, TTC ticket, and token payments are returning on buses, and paper transfers will be available. The transit commission also said to consider purchasing a PRESTO card as it’s “faster and easier” than other methods.

It’s important to note that there are exceptions to the mandatory mask policy.

Any child under the age of two, people with underlying medical conditions that inhibit the ability to wear a mask, persons who are unable to place or remove the mask on their own, and TTC employees who are in designated TTC areas that are not public spaces will not be required to wear the covering.

Additionally, accommodations in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code will also be considered.

“These face coverings are required as a safety precaution as more customers return to the system and physical distancing becomes more challenging,” the transit commission said, while reminding transit riders to remain six feet from people not within their household.
