Toronto Vegetarian Association hosting virtual gala dinner for its 75th birthday

Jun 11 2020, 5:58 pm

The Toronto Vegetarian Association (TVA) is turning 75 this month, and while an in-person celebration isn’t an option right now, a three-course meal delivered to your home is!

As part of a celebratory, virtual fundraising gala, you can enjoy a luxurious vegan meal alongside a Live Zoom party, running from 7 pm to 8:30 pm on June 19.

The event will feature a Facebook Live pre-show just before the party, with appearances by Peter Katz and other vegan celebrities. Those interested in attending — with dinner delivered or without — can snag tickets online until June 16, but don’t sleep on it — there are only 100 reservations available.

If you opt for the dinner option, you’ve got a real treat to look forward to. The meal is being prepared by the local vegan chefs at 852 Curbside Collective, a group of female entrepreneurs who pivoted their business to boxed meal deliveries amid the pandemic.

And, in addition to the gala, a silent auction that will feature prizes from more than 30 local businesses will run on Facebook from June 15 to 20.

“The TVA was founded in 1945, at the tail end of World War II” said Denyse Mehta, executive director at the Toronto Vegetarian Association, in a release.

“Vegetarianism was just emerging then, but the organization helped support vegetarian soldiers, the founders themselves and their growing local community despite the challenges of being vegetarian at that time. Seventy-five years later, we face different challenges, but we’re committed to providing a fun event for our supporters to celebrate all that we’ve achieved in Toronto through our events and outreach.”
