Toronto Police (along with firefighters and EMS workers in solidarity) were absent from Toronto’s Pride Parade this year following the acquiesce of Pride Toronto to demands made by BLM Toronto.

In response to the decision to ban uniformed police officers from participating in Pride Toronto festivities, roughly 100 officers from Canada accepted an invitation by the Gay Officers Action League (GOALNY) to march in the New York City parade on the same weekend.

On both sides of the border, the decision has spurred divisive opinions, meanwhile the Black Lives Matter Greater New York movement* has penned an open letter in solidarity with the Toronto chapter and is calling for a ban on uniformed police participating in future New York City parades.
