Toronto Maple Leafs and Stolarz making little progress in contract extension talks: report

Don’t expect to see the Toronto Maple Leafs and Anthony Stolarz agree to a contract extension in the near future.
Stolarz joined the Leafs on a two-year deal as a free agent last offseason, fresh off winning a Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers. The expectation was that he would work in a duo with Joseph Woll in hopes of solidifying the Leafs’ crease moving forward. The 31-year-old was able to do all of that and more in 2024-25.
Though a knee injury suffered in December limited his playing time, Stolarz was fantastic when available. Through 31 games, which served as a career high, he posted a 2.14 GAA along with a .926 SV%, numbers that were very similar to what he had posted through 27 appearances in 2023-24 with the Panthers.
The problem when it comes to extending Stolarz, however, is his limited track record. He had never appeared in 30 games prior to the 2024-25 campaign, and has just 142 games of NHL experience under his belt. This may be a case of Maple Leafs management wanting to see more from him in 2025-26 before offering up another deal, as David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports that, as of now, there is no progress being made on an extension.
“No progress, as of today, on a contract extension between the Toronto Maple Leafs and goalie Anthony Stolarz, who is in the final year of his current deal,” Pagnotta wrote on X.
Though that may sound concerning to Leafs fans who quickly grew to love Stolarz last season, Pagnotta was clear to mention that there is “no worry from either side” at this time.

Thanks in large part to his impressive 2024-25 season, AFP Analytics is projecting that Stolarz’s next contract will be a two-year deal at just over $8.5 million. That deal would give him a cap hit of roughly $4.27 million, a significant raise over the $2.5 million he will command this coming season.
