A new park planned for Toronto is taking its name — Love Park — and really running with it.

The new park, soon to be at the northeast corner of York Street and Queens Quay West, will be oozing with symbols of love, including a large heart-shaped pond in the middle of the park.

The two-acre park was designed by Claude Cormier + Associés Inc. and is meant to serve as a break from the concrete surfaces of downtown.

Inside the pond will be a Northern Catalpa tree sitting on its own island surrounded by bright pink heart-shaped flowers. And right above the water will be a pink glowing heart designed so that it looks like it’s floating in the air.

Moveable furniture will be placed around the water feature so that park-goers can sit wherever they like. There will also be curved, tree-lined paths, grassy areas, and plenty of greenery to give the space a nature-heavy feel.

For all the dog owners, an off-leash area will be built on the northeast side of the park for the four-legged city dwellers to run around.

Love Park has been in the works since 2019 and has gone through a variety of designs. The most recent and final design was released by Claude Cormier + Associés Inc. this month.

Construction on the park is expected to begin in the first half of this year and will finish up in 2022.

Although the love aspect may seem a little cheesy to some people, one thing’s for sure: the park will bring some much-needed green space to downtown.
