Last month, Toronto took the top spot for the most expensive average rent in the country.
For the month of August, the average one-bedroom rent went up $10 to $2,300 — surpassing last month’s record of $2,290. Two bedrooms remained flat at an average price of $2,850.
But don’t let this discourage you from entering the rental market, because there are still listings in the GTA that won’t cost you a small fortune — you just need to know where to look to find some of the cheapest rentals in the city.

If you stray away from the heart of downtown, you can find some affordable options hidden throughout the city.
According to brokerage Zoocasa, there are a number of listings currently well below the average rental price this month, with some rentals going for just $850.
