It’s not easy being a cat in the big city.

Sitting alone for long days, hanging out by windows, watching the world go by. But for one cat, life is about to change — because he’s now internet famous.

It all started with Erika Strong, who works at Shopify’s Toronto office.

On Wednesday, Strong tweeted that she stares out the window every day looking at a cat in someone’s apartment.

She then decided to ask what the cat’s name, using Post-Its to write out her question.

To her surprise, the cat’s family replied.

“Marshall.”

“I like to imagine that the reason it took them so long to respond is because they had to print it out at work and remember to bring the piece of paper home,” she said. “And every day they would say ‘Today’s the day,’ but they would still forget. It’s lightly crumpled so it checks out.”

But she got the answer, and her tweet went viral with over 44,000 retweets and over 155,000 likes in 24 hours.

She even asked all of Marshall’s new fans what to ask the cat(‘s family) next.

And also let Marshall know he’s now famous.

No word yet on how Marshall is handling all this fame.
