There's a butterfly festival happening in Toronto this weekend

Monarch butterflies don’t like to spend their winters in Canada.

In other words, they’re smart.

And to help celebrate the start of their 3,500 km migration south to Mexico for a winter filled of sun and warm temperatures, Tommy Thompson Park is hosting its 9th annual Butterfly Festival.

On Saturday, visitors can learn about these beautiful flying insects through many activities, nature hikes, and educational displays, while discovering the more than 55 species of butterflies recorded at the park to date.

This fun family event is free.

When: August 19, 10 am to 3 pm
