Toronto Blue Jays get good-news injury update on Bo Bichette

The injury suffered by Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette last week may not be as bad as some feared.

The 27-year-old was diagnosed with a PCL strain in his left knee and was subsequently placed on the 10-day injured list. While most didn’t think of it as a major cause for concern, that changed on Monday when Blue Jays manager John Schneider announced that Bichette was going for a second opinion.

The fact that he was seeking out a second opinion suggested the original prognosis may have been worse than the Jays had led on.

Thankfully, that doesn’t appear to be the case, as the two-time All-Star received good news during his second opinion, per Jon Morosi of MLB Network. Though not ready to return just yet, Bichette was told it’s a short-term injury, one that will continue to improve with rest and rehab.

With just two weeks and 12 games remaining in the regular season for the Blue Jays, it’s unlikely we’ll see Bichette back on the mound before the playoffs begin. That said, being able to potentially have him back for the playoffs is big in its own right, as it was beginning to seem like that may not be a possibility.

Though his struggles defensively are well noted, Bichette has still put together an incredible 2025 season for the Jays. Through 139 games and 628 plate appearances, he’s hitting a scalding .311 with 18 home runs and 94 RBI. The bounce-back year has helped ensure he will be getting a big contract in the offseason, whether it be in Toronto or elsewhere.

Thankfully, the Blue Jays haven’t been affected by Bichette’s absence as of yet, having gone 6-2 in the eight games he’s missed. Thanks to their recent run, including a current five-game winning streak, the Jays continue to lead the AL East Division with an 88-62 record, and are getting closer to clinching their first division title since 2015.
