Early spring weather forces The Bentway Skate Trail to close prematurely

Blame it on the overly mild weather in Toronto today, but one frozen outdoor establishment in the city has to close early for the winter season.

The Bentway Skate Trail must now close prematurely following this week’s spring-like weather. This comes just days before the site was planning on hosting its official closing weekend celebration.

“We’ve had a fantastic Winter Season, despite the fluctuating weather. I personally want to send a special thank you to our partners at Fort York National Historic Site, and to all of the artists, performers, community members, and visitors for a wonderful inaugural season,” said Julian Sleath, CEO of The Bentway Conservancy.

“We are looking forward to more fun this summer!”

Construction will now begin on the next phase of The Bentway, which will continue over the next few months with completion of the full site and an official opening of the Strachan section, later this summer.

According to a press release, the Strachan section will include “a grand cascading wooden ‘staircase’ that doubles as a main entrance and performance space, and the adjacent Green Amphitheatre, a grassy hill that welcomes audiences to relax and enjoy performances under the sun.”
