Toronto restaurants and bars are saying no to plastic straws

Apr 12 2018, 11:13 pm

Let April 21 be The Last Straw. It’s time to #StopSuckingToronto. That’s the tagline for Straw Free Day taking place at bars and restaurants across the city this April.

The initiative encouraging beverage purveyors to go straw-free takes place on April 21 and was initiated by a group of bar industry veterans “who are all too aware of the waste produced in the hospitality industry.”

Accord to the website for The Last Straw, “This project is born out of the desire to shift perspectives. Every time we serve a straw-free drink, it means one less item in our landfills, one less piece of plastic in our oceans. Small changes can make a big difference.”

While the event is only one day long, consider it “a stepping stone to a more mindful approach in our consumption of single-use plastics.”
