Anthony Stolarz calls out entire team after tough Toronto Maple Leafs loss

Anthony Stolarz wasn’t afraid to take his Toronto Maple Leafs to task after a tough OT loss to the Seattle Kraken on Saturday night.
Toronto was playing from behind all night long, having been forced to tie the game three separate times, before eventually losing in OT off a Joshua Mahura goal. It was a disappointing loss considering that the Kraken are expected to be near the bottom of the league this season.
So, what was the problem this time around for the Leafs? Well, Stolarz met with the media after the game and didn’t mince words on what he thought his teammates were doing wrong.
“Maybe we can take a page out of their book and start getting to the net,” Stolarz said. “I mean, for us, we like to go low to high and shoot, but for their goalie, it’s like playing catch in the yard.
“Enough’s enough, and we’ve kind of got to start picking it up here.”

It wasn’t exactly a goalie battle between the Leafs and Kraken. Stolarz finished the night with a .857 save percentage, while Daccord was under .900 as well. Still, in the eyes of the 31-year-old, he felt like the Maple Leafs made it too easy on the Seattle goaltender.
At one point in the game, Stolarz was bowled over by Mason Marchment on a rush chance, only to watch none of his teammates come to his defence. The Leafs’ goalie took matters into his own hands, pushing over the net and going after Marchment.
When asked about that moment after the game, Stolarz was candid in his response.
“I’m not happy, guys are gonna run me and I’m going to try to stand up for myself,” Stolarz said. “I heard the ref say we got a power play, and there really isn’t much I can do to him on the ground.
“It’s not fun, I don’t like having 225-pound guys landing on me. Hopefully, we learn our lesson here.”

The loss dropped the Leafs to a disappointing 3-2-1 on the season, which includes this loss to Seattle as well as two consecutive defeats at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings. It’s concerning as none of those teams are surfire locks to even make the playoffs.
They will get a chance to get back to their winning ways on Tuesday, but it won’t get any easier as they will be facing a red-hot New Jersey Devils club.
