The eatery’s address at 1255 Dundas Street West is already up for lease, and the news as to why has been shared to the company’s Instagram account.

“I am sad to say that it’s with an incredibly heavy heart that I let you all know, that due to a personal health crisis, I am no longer able to operate Steambox and have closed my beloved shop,” the post’s caption reads.

It goes on to say that through five years of trying to keep Steambox Dumplings afloat, frequent hospital visits have made it impossible to keep up with the “crazy entrepreneur lifestyle.”

I used to sketch in my notebook little pictures of dumplings and a shop with the streetcar going by. I dreamt up flavours and different shapes… I started off making specialized deliveries on my bike to those to emailed me, then did pop ups at craft shows and breweries…I had finally realized my dream. A brick and mortar location! I am sad to say that it’s with an incredibly heavy heart that I let you all know, that due to a personal health crisis, I am no longer able to operate Steambox and have closed my beloved shop. There have been so many memories and so many dumplings made. I tried my hardest to keep it going for the past 5 years, but my health kept bringing me into the hospital and prevented me from living this crazy entrepreneur lifestyle. Maybe one day Steambox will resurrect but until then… thank you all to my wonderful patrons for all your love and support through the years. Without you I would have never been able to realize my dream.
