The City of Toronto has launched an online system to report issues of coronavirus-related non-compliance in the ongoing fight to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Residents can now submit reports about individuals not adhering to physical distancing on private property, among other things.

“In support of the Mayor’s Emergency Orders and the Class Order issued by Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, the City of Toronto is collecting COVID-19 enforcement related service requests,” the city’s website says.

There are seven categories for which a person or business can be reported, including:

  • Non-essential business remaining open
  • Non-essential construction site operating
  • Non-compliance with physical distancing by-law
  • Removal of city park barriers
  • Individuals not self-isolating
  • Individuals not self-isolating after travelling outside of Canada
  • Business suspected of price gouging

Non-compliance with the physical distancing by-law can include private parties or individuals refusing to physically distance themselves in public. It can also apply to businesses not enforcing physical distancing or public gatherings of more than five people.

A person can be reported for not self-isolating after travelling outside of Canada, as well as anyone seen to not be complying with self-isolation orders that:

  • have COVID-19 but are not hospitalized
  • have symptoms of COVID-19
  • are waiting for their COVID-19 test results
  • have had close contact with someone who has COVID-19

Ontario has over 10,000 confirmed coronavirus cases, with the death toll surpassing 500 on Saturday.
