Ontario surpasses 10,000 coronavirus cases as death toll hits 500

Ontario reported 485 new test-positive coronavirus cases Saturday, bringing the province’s known case count over the 10,000 threshold.

There are now 10,010 known cases in Ontario. With 4,875 of them recovered, there are 5,135 active infections.

Officials also reported 36 more coronavirus deaths, bringing the province’s death toll to 514.

Slightly more women than men have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Ontario, and people ages 40-59 continue to be the largest cohort among patients.

Most of the province’s cases (56.5%) are in the Greater Toronto Area.

Across the province, 108 long-term care homes are dealing with outbreaks.
