Raptors lose OG Anunoby for start of playoffs after emergency surgery

The Toronto Raptors will be without forward OG Anunoby for the duration of their first-round playoff series.

Anunoby had an emergency appendectomy after being diagnosed with acute appendicitis, the team announced Friday – on the eve of their series-opener against the Orlando Magic.

The successful surgery was performed Thursday evening at Mount Sinai Hospital, the team said, adding there is no timeline for his return. NBA insider Shams Charania reports that the second-year forward is expected to be sidelined “at least two weeks,” which would cause Anunoby to miss at least the first round.

Anunoby appeared in 67 games for the Raptors this season, averaging 7.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 20.2 minutes per game. The 21-year-old scored in double figures 15 times, with two 20-point games.
