First-of-its-kind ramen subscription services launches in Ontario

Mar 4 2021, 3:10 pm

Subscriptions aren’t only for streaming services. You can get one for ramen too! This Ontario-based restaurant offers DIY ramen kits for delivery.

Crafty Ramen is a locally owned and operated restaurant group in Guelph and Kitchener that has now dipped their hands into a different business model, offering ramen kits sent directly to your door for individual meals or as part of their subscription plans.

“We’re changing the way that people think about ramen ─ it can be both fresh and convenient,” said Khalil Khamis, Crafty Ramen partner and CEO, in a release.

“If the past year has taught us anything, it’s that a restaurant is not defined by the space it occupies. Through our e-commerce platform and partnerships with a growing list of local retailers, we plan to bring the high-quality Crafty experience to households all across Canada.”

Each Crafty Ramen kit comes with simple instructions and pre-portioned ingredients for a seamless experience. There are a bunch of meat and vegan options to choose from.

They are “delivered in temperature-controlled boxes,” and customers are notified 24 hours prior to delivery before receiving a contactless drop-off notification.

Grappling with the changes that came with the pandemic and unable to open dine-in services, Crafty Ramen Market developed this method for those at home to get creative and find joy in cooking up delicious ramen.

“In closing the restaurants to dine-in, we obviously lost a revenue stream, but more than that, we lost the connection to our community,” said Miki Ferrall, Crafty Ramen co-founder and vice president of operations.

“The Crafty Ramen Market is our way of navigating this new world and sharing that experience again; we are hoping to bring our feeling of home into the homes of our customers.”

According to Crafty Ramen, kits should be cooked within three days or frozen for up to six months.

Individual ramen kits are priced at $16 and ‘kids kits’ at $9. The Fresh Ramen Subscription allows you to build your bundle or choose a family box starting from $32.
